The Contrast

The Contrast
Lift Big, Sing Big, Look Great Doing It.

Lots of times I get wrapped up in the idea of writing for a purpose. That the things that I have to write about must contain knowledge, experience, and reason. And generally, that is primarily what I try to compose.

However, in a lot of ways, this turns me into some form of a slave. That now I am chained to this keyboard, forced to give my time and energy into the world. So, every once in a while, I have to break the mold. I have to slap my authority figures in the face, spit at their feet and rip apart my shackles.

This ain't for's for me.

Don't get me wrong. If you are reading this, I have such a love and appreciation for you that you will never know. I have no clue how I could possibly ever show you my gratitude. But in the end, when all is said and done my writings are for me. They are literally the last aspect of my life where I serve no man and no doctrine other than myself.

I sometimes forget this. I put the shackles on my own hands. I place those deadlines, I set the pace. That's when I have to step back and say "you can quit at any time." That's freedom.

Sometimes it takes a long walk with just you and your thoughts with your personal secretary Siri to dictate your ramblings, forcing you to say The words aloud for you to remember.

"This is for you."

You being me. This is My next step in my journey. To take what I have learned, earned and burned and put it down on "paper." (Make your mark.) Setting my path. Creating my kingdom and forging my legacy in the manner that I see fit. If you don't do it, others will. They will craft your image under the perception of theirs. It's unavoidable. People see what they want to see and they ignore the rest. We all walk around with this beaten woman syndrome where we cast shades of blindness around certain aspects of our lives, whether it's people, events or self examination. Your name in history, whether it's written in books or not, will be depicted in caricatures by those that only have a fraction of your understanding.

Fuck That.

People will know the story of Ol' Yeargain because he will speak it from his own mouth. Whether you consider him a friend, foe, imbecile, master, teacher, zealot or just a straight up asshole, I'll be the one telling the stories for you to interpret. You'll always have my side of the story.
