Don Giovanni at Lawrence Opera Theater

As I've mentioned ad nauseam, I will be performing the title role of Don Giovanni at Lawrence Opera Theater this summer.

The Official Dates are August 15th at 7:30pm and August 17th at 2:30pm (Matinee) at Theatre Lawrence.

Make sure you go to Lawrence Opera Theater's Facebook Page and "like" it so you can get all the updates and information on cast and crew involved with this production as well as other performances surrounding the Lawrence Opera Theater Festival That includes:

A full production of Mozart's Don Giovanni (starring yours truly)
A cover cast performance of selections from Don Giovanni
A couple of concerts of arias and scenes performed around the Kansas metro area
A Musical Theater Cabaret

Goals for this role:

To bring a level of physical conditioning not yet seen in this role. I'm talking lean, vascular, with more muscle and fullness. I don't think I'll get stupid lean. I'm not about to put on a mankini and dream tan and show off striated glutes...it's just too much...but, I have full confidence that I will be at a level of comfortable leaness that is better than what I currently am rocking

I'm not entirely sure of the concept yet. So I'm trying to keep the character work to just the basics for now. I usually like to model my characters after iconic actors or their famous characters so that the audience has a really enjoyable, relatable experience. I'm not big into reinventing the wheel. But, to give you guys a hint of what I'm leaning towards....

Yeah, I know, right? Very terrifying, and honestly, I'm in a pretty comparable physique to where Christian Bale was for Patrick Bateman.

Yeah, I'd say so.

Thanks, Bat(e)man.

It might be a little too much, but I think that the sociopathic, sex addict that also has no issue with murder bears a little resemblance to the Don.

I know that I will probably come off very aggressive, I almost always do. I don't know if it's vocal quality or just physical presence, but intimidation is second nature to Ol' Yeargain. Consequence of action and the following repentance are my bread and butter, It's going to be an amazing experience to perform all of these horrible actions and still defy the repentance, justice being taken from me even until my last breath. Real Deep shit.

There should be a level of suave, smooth, sensuality to the role, half of the job being done with the voice, and the other half with physicality. I know my aggressiveness is going to come off a bit...um, well, rapist in nature. And although this may work in some scenes, seeing that he is arguably a rapist (depending on the direction, not my opinion), I don't think that all of his conquests have come by this nature, so he has to be able to lure his "prey" rather than just take it.

I don't know much about the production, but I do know that they plan on setting it in New york and it's in modern attire. Fun stuff right? Here's a little promo poster:

Damn good stuff.

Well, that's all for now. You guys will know more about it when I do. If you couldn't tell, I'm really looking forward to it.

Until then,
Lift Big, Sing Big, and Look Great Doing It.
