Politics and the Individual

Every time election season rolls around, I set up the blinders, avoid the social media, switch off NPR, try not even to glance at a random T.V.

I used to be interested in politics. I went to Washington D.C. and marched in the Ron Paul Revolution down Constitution Avenue. I read a lot of articles and researched ideals that solidified my identity as a libertarian.

However, that was pre-opera bro Ol' Yeargain. Now, it's just another distraction from the work to be done. Training, singing, my clients and my music and writing.

People are obsessed with picking sides, teams, and finding enemies. They want someone to be wrong to prove their righteousness. A hell to their heaven, a bad to their good. However, people misinterpret what is good for their circumstances at this moment for the plights of many and they look for help from the majority instead of seeking out solutions for the self.

My philosophy of minimalism isn't just in regards to exercise selection and dietary practices. It extends to how I handle things in life. Narrow the scope. I can't really understand someone looking to fix the world when they're unsure how to take care of themselves. Or for those looking dictate morality for the masses when they themselves struggle with their imperfections.

People will believe whatever the fuck they want and do what they want to do. Good on'em. But me? I'm gonna work on myself and help those close to me and those who are interested in learning from my experience.

Until next time,

Lift Big, Sing Big, and Look Great Doing It.
